Laocoon head (SOLD)

This painting is a study of the Laocoön, a fragment of one of the most famous sculptures from antiquity. I focused on capturing the intense emotion and dynamism of the original work through careful attention to light and shadow. The dramatic lighting emphasizes the anguish and movement frozen in the marble, highlighting the intricate curls of the hair and the expressive lines of the face.

By isolating the head against a dark background, I aimed to distill the essence of the sculpture, allowing the viewer to focus on the emotional impact rather than the larger narrative context. The play of light across the surface of the sculpture brings out its sculptural quality while adding a sense of immediacy, as though the figure is caught in a fleeting moment of struggle.
