Stillife with silverbowl and mandarin

“this still life painting has few objects and has a silence about it, unlike most other still lifes I paint. in this painting I wanted to bring out the contrasts in the materials – from the newly polished silver bowl painted in cold tones, to the textile and the mandarin painted in warm tones. the lamp I used to illuminate the objects was very warm in temperature. the challenge was to balance warm and cold tones and the various textures”.
